Everyone's speed is made equal to the person in position 1, but everyone's defense is halved. This makes her the best priority support/healer or offensive if you farm a lot. With a bit more speed, she can extra turn most things in the game. That is the one truly good thing about Nina. If you are interested, look up BoF3 Secrets FAQ.Īnd yeah, agility is king in this game. If you really want to make her a decent black mage, fish heads are the stat boosters that raise Int and they are the easiest to farm via fairy village but that requires a lot of investment and knowing the ins and outs of the fairy village.
Endgame, there are enemies in a desert that can give you a full heal spell called "cure" (look up how to get it and give it to Nina). Hondora gives you a revive spell and purify which also goes well for Nina. Yggdrasil as a master gives you the shield spell and Nina is the best candidate for it. If you want to make Nina work without spending countless hours grinding, make her go support magic. offensive magic was only good in the early game. In earlier BoFs, I would just load up the heaviest armors and live with being last-to-act. A big part of it was me not knowing any better and putting Ryu to Meryleep, getting some insane agility, and then finding out about Chain Formation and deciding to use it to take advantage of Ryu's insane agility to get extra turns, make Garr and Peco fast (Peco being the most questionable choice for Chain Formation, I know), and being able to wear heavy equipment while still being able to strike first or escape if needed.īoF3 really made me re-think agility, especially being able to get extra turns. With that said, Nina was my most used character in BoF 1 and 2, but she lost favor in BoF3. Nina's great in the early stages because she can deal with multiple enemies in one swoop or weaken them so that everyone else can one-shot the high value targets, but once Ryu is an adult, the spells stop being effective and everything else begins to open up (or at least it did for me, I didn't even use Masters when Ryu was a kid b/c I didn't know better, like Bunyan being a Master). I'm going through BoF3 for the first time and I thought I was the only one who felt this way. Nina/magic is actually good now as it was horribly bad in the normal game. I hope that some of this can help spice up your fun. It makes me happy seeing others love the game enough to play it as much as I do. A lot of it was RNG, but even RNG can be fun once you get good rolls and fate smiles your way. It was a bit tedious at times, but the difficulty really put a spin on things.
My favorite challenge run came next and that was my low level playthrough. I'm not a fan of speed running so I did a "no masters" run and a "no items" run for a few different team combinations. You can do a similar thing with Garr as well, I'd check out some guides that go into more detail.Īfter that I did some challenge runs. If you let him die during the early game encounters you can keep him at level one until you reach Mygas. Once that got old, I tried out some wacky optimization routes like mage Ryu.
The first three times I beat the game I use my standard favorite party, but for the following two runs I used completely new team setups. I've playe it quite a few times as well so here are some things that made it more enjoyable for me. Breath of Fire 3 is my favorite game of all time and probably always will be.
